Little Known Facts NO ONE talks about!

6 - Russia’s Contributions to WWII Russia has a pretty bad reputation. First there were the czars. Then there were the Bolshevik revolution, the reign of Lenin, Stalin’s tyrannical atrocities, and the whole cold war not so long ago. So in many ways, they’ve earned their reputation. But it’s worth noting that without their efforts during WWII, Western civilization as we know it might not exist. In school, most Americans were taught that America won WWII. The efforts of our allies, aside from maybe England and Winston Churchill are rarely mentioned, and the fact that war had been raging in Europe for a good two years before America joined the effort isn’t usually front and center in the narrative. And it’s almost never acknowledged that without the help of The Soviet Union, Europe might have fallen to the Nazis. But the fact is Russia bore the biggest burden of any of the Allied countries, accounting for about 95 percent of all the Allied casualties! Think about this one; Russia suffered more than all of the Allied countries combined. The US who did indeed play a big role in altering the trajectory of the war, lost about 400,000 soldiers but virtually no civilians. Russia, on the other hand, lost at least 11 million soldiers, and anywhere between 7 and 20 million civilians based on a few different estimates. In the Battle of Moscow alone more than half a million Soviet troops were killed, while the battle itself proved to be a huge setback for Hitler. The Soviet’s relentless defense of the city wore the Nazis down and resulted in a domino effect of strategic failures for Hitler and his demented plans. When Hitler tried to invade Russia he was initially successful. But it was the Battle of Moscow and the Soviet’s heroic efforts that stalled his advances. For a man who supposedly studied Napoleon and STILL tried to invade Russia during the winter, part of Hitler’s undoing was his own blind ambition and his unfettered thirst for conquest. But the Russian counter offensive forced Germany back, and led to the failure of Hitler’s small scale offenses in Russia as well as Operation Barbarossa, the code name for Hitler’s large scale invasion. Without a doubt, that helped shift the war in the Allie’s favor. So while Russia has had less than a charming relationship with the rest of the world, we’d be foolish to forget how they helped save the very same world they’ve been menacing. Kind of ironic, don’t ya think?

5 - Ants weigh more than what?! Ants can be really annoying. They crawl all over everything at picnics and some ants, such as fire ants, can inflict some pretty painful bites. Oh yeah, don’t forget Bullet ants, whose bite is said to be one of the most painful things known to man. It’s almost like the world would just be better without them. Right? Wrong. Here, I’ll prove it. Say for example that ants all just died tomorrow, or they said “screw it” and packed up and went to another planet. Either way, let’s just say they’re all gone. That would cause a sh*t storm of consequences like you couldn’t imagine. The ecological imbalance that would create would ultimately cause many species to go extinct because Ants actually prey on insects that spread diseases. They also enrich the soil, which helps us grow food, and they protect vital plants in our ecosystem.

Craziest Traditions From Around The World

10 Up first in tenth place, we have the Hindu tradition of Thaipusam piercings which takes place across India and in other Hindu communities across the world. During the celebration of the religious holiday Thaipusam, Hindus show their devotion to Lord Murugan by piercing various parts of their bodies. Lord Murugan, who is one of the earliest Hindu gods dating back to around the third century BC, is said to have killed a vengeful spirit, Soorapadman, with a spear – and therefore, logically, people stab themselves to celebrate it. As the years have passed, the piercings have become more and more gruesome – often including putting large spears and hooks through their chest or face.

9 Here in ninth is Chinese hat hair. This strange tradition sees women wear headdresses made from the hair of their dead ancestors. Instead of throwing away their hair when its cut, women who are part of China’s minority community, the Long-horn Miao, instead save it and add it to their collection for use when they die. Once they have passed, the hair is made in to spectacular headdresses and worn on special occasions by young women in the family. The evidence of these hats has been found as far back as 6,000 years.

8 The Phuket Vegetarian Festival, which is much more interesting than any PETA rally, is a colourful event held over nine days in October. The event celebrates the belief that abstinence from meat during the ninth month of the Chinese calendar will help them to obtain health. The origin of the festival is said to have come from when a Chinese opera group fell ill with Malaria when performing on the Phuket Island in Thailand. They chose to stick to a strictly vegetarian diet and pray to the emperor gods to ensure that their mind and body were purified. To the surprise of everybody, the group made a full recovery and survived what was, during the 1800s when this took place, an incredibly fatal illness. So far, fairly normal. Well, if it ended there it wouldn’t be on the list. As well as the vegetarianism, the Phuket people like to commit various acts of self-mutilation in order to invoke the gods to protect them from such harm. This includes stabbing various objects through their body and face, and walking across burning coals. As in the nature of this celebration, there have been many injuries caused by this – and even a few deaths.

7 The endocannibalist Yanomami tribe. Endocannibalism is the consumptions of a person after they have died – as appose to just regular old cannibalism. The Yanomami tribe lives in the Amazon rainforest, near the border of Venezuela and Brazil, and the practice involves wrapping the corpse in leaves and allowing insects to pick at it. Around a month later, the bones are collected, smashed in to dust, and mixed in to a banana soup which is eaten by the rest of the tribe. After a year, they will then mix the ashes in to another banana soup and eat it. According to tradition, the ritual helps ensure that the souls of the dead find their way to the afterlife. The Yanomami tribe are semi-uncontacted, and this tradition has been going on for thousands of years, since they first migrated to the Amazon.

6 Coming in at sixth place Ashura. Ashura is an event recognised by many Muslims around the world for various reasons. For some Shiite Muslims, the day is observed by commemoration of the death of Imam Hussein – a grandson of the prophet Muhammed. Hussein allegedly died by being repeatedly struck on the head with daggers – an event which took place around the year 680 AD. Today, some men choose to join in a procession and hit themselves on the head with daggers to pay tribute to the fallen prophet. It is also to mourn the fact that they were not alive to save Hussein.

Scariest Diseases in the World

As human society evolves one of the key areas we are always looking to improve upon is the realm of medicine. Hundreds of years ago, if you were sick or suffering from some strange disease odds were that your body either fought off the illness on its own or you died. Of course, there was also the possibility that you were accused of being a monster, or a witch and chased through the street with pitch-forks. In all seriousness, early medicine was rather crude because we simple didn’t know as much as we did now. Over time, knowledge and treatments improved to the point where we began eradicating or nearly eradicating diseases such as small pox, polio, malaria and even rabies. Thanks to medicine, these once terrifying diseases are now more than under control and manageable. Yet, it isn’t all so positive everywhere when it comes to disease control. In addition to the near-yearly arrival of some new super-virus that the media obsesses with, there are a range of diseases that remain largely incurable and rather terrifying. Some have recently arrived from the deepest jungles of Africa while others have been around for some time but are so rare that you’ve probably never heard of them. Together, they make up some of the scariest diseases you could ever run up against. They’ll turn your muscle to bone, make you bleed from every orifice, cause your feet to deform or cover you in a blanket of tumors. It’s your choice but we suggest you don’t eat while you watch this round-up of diseases even Hollywood couldn’t make up.

most severe cases of conjoined twins

7. Twins for life!
Conjoined twins from India, Sahu and Shivanath Sahu are 12 years old share the same pair of legs but had healthy lungs and hearts which allowed them to turn out equally as healthy. The villagers there believed that they were divine incarnations and were worshipping them as a result. Who would want to be separated if that’s the case?! Doctors think they could disattached them but they are happy with each other and declined the offer. They want to live together until they are old and live as they were made.

6. Laurie and Dori Schappell
This is proof that conjoined twins can go on to live different lives even though they’re sharing 30% of the same brain matter. Dori went on to be a country singer, identified herself as male and changed her name to George. Since George has spina bifida, he is 7 inches shorter than Lori. Lori is a trophy winning bowler but both are commonly on talk shows and documentaries and happy with their current lives.

Eng and Chang were both born near Bangkok, Thailand in 1811 (known at that time as the Kingdom of Siam). The king of siam originally ordered them to be killed but their mother refused to hand them over. The brothers were attached by a thin piece of cartilage connecting each other's chests. Other than their livers being attached, they had completely separate systems. The twins began making a lucrative living playing in sideshows around the country and even fathered dozens of children. Chang eventually suffered from a stroke and was becoming a victim of alcoholism. He died before his brother Eng. It’s said that Eng died 3 hours after discovering his brother dead due to shock that his brother passed away. Can one conjoined twin live without the other?

This real photograph of 10-month-old baby from Egypt named Manar is an unusual case of conjoined twins. The other twin is able to smile, laugh, and respond to stimuli but is not capable of living without the help of its twin since it has no organs. What was supposed to be a conjoined twin clearly didn’t fully develop as it was supposed to in the womb. There have only been 7 reported cases this around the world. The conjoined twins underwent a miraculous surgery but only one head come out alive. What’s your opinion on this? Do you believe one person was killed so the other could look more normal?
3. Eyes in the back of your head?

This is the true photo of Edward Mordake, who had a duplicate face on the back of his head. This might be considered a mutation but due to the fact that the face would seem to smile when Edward was happy and frown when it was sad, seems to raise some questions about what it is exactly, maybe a twin. It didn’t have ability to speak or eat but still deeply troubled Edward. He demanded that doctors remove it immediately but they refused. He often hallucinated and said that the face was talking to him with the voice of a demon. Edward could no longer handle the psychological torment and killed himself in his mid 20’s.

His twin had been festering under his skin for the past 36 years. The deformed parasitic twin would have killed Sanjay in a matter of time and was basically feasting off. Normally this deformity is quickly detected with ultrasound but this was a rare case that happened been detected his entire life. Could this creature have had consciousness?

People with the Strangest Medical Conditions

When it comes to the human body, it seems that the medical field is making new strides every day. But as soon as an accomplishment is made, someone else comes along that defies medical studies and have to be looked at. Unknown medical conditions, especially ones that appear later in life, can be alarming and downright scary because it exposes our vulnerabilities and makes us realize that we are not immortal or perfect. Weird medical conditions can also be very humbling for both the sufferer and the observer since there isn’t much that can be done about these conditions. Sometimes these condition causes life to end prematurely, or it makes a quality of life unbearable. In this video are ten people who shouldn’t have existed. From where medical conditions to life-threatening states, these people defied medical books and have shown the scientific world that there are certain things that are indeed possible. For example, two men by the name of Ian Toader and Dede Koswara defied medical studies with their skin condition called Epidermodysplasia verruciformis, causing bark-like warts to grow on their bodies, thus naming them “The Tree Men”. Imagine not being able to hold a utensil to eat or write, because there was bark growing from your hands? Of course, one of the oldest cases of medical conditions is Joseph Merrick, famously known as “The Elephant Man”. Joseph had an odd deformity all over his body, which caused his bones to develop odd lumps and his skin and face to swell. His skeleton still stands in a hospital in London today, where it is studied. Despite being dead for over one hundred years, Merrick still baffles medical experts. There is a medical condition called progeria, which causes premature aging. People who suffer from this condition typically don’t make it past their teenage years, as they have the body of an elderly person by then. It is a real life case of Benjamin Button or the movie, “Jack” starring Robin Williams (in a less glamourous way). Not many people have progeria, so the ones who do are typically thrown into the media spotlight for all to see. What if all you could do was sleep? That’s what has happened to Beth Goodier, who sleeps for 22 hours a day. Even when she is awake for 2 hours, she is in a child-like state and doesn’t get much accomplished. The condition, known as Sleeping Beauty Syndrome, started when she was a teenager and hasn’t improved much, despite being in her twenties. Beth states that it isn’t a great life sleeping all the time and she feels like she has missed out on a lot in life. Imagine living a life where your skin causes an immense amount of pain. That is the life of 14 year old Jonathan Pitre, who is also known as the Butterfly Child. His skin is so fragile that anything can make it blister and tear, which means that he can’t play sports or even live a normal life. He lives vicariously through sports teams, and has dedicated a lot of his time towards research for his condition. The cases in this video only get more incredible. Check out the rest of this video for more people who defy the medical world!
